ABS 3D printing
ABS is a classic engineering plastic: impact resistant, heat tolerant and easy to post-process. A solid choice for enclosures, automotive and mechanical parts.
Material properties
| Tensile strength | ~35–45 MPa |
|---|---|
| Heat resistance | ~95–100 °C |
| Toughness | good (impact resistant) |
| Key property | heat resistant, acetone-smoothable |
Values are indicative; they vary with print orientation and settings.
Why choose it?
- ~95–100 °C heat resistance
- Good impact strength
- Sandable, drillable, acetone-vapor smoothable
- Bonds well with adhesives
Typical applications
- Device and electronics enclosures
- Automotive interior parts
- Mechanical parts, handles
- Brackets exposed to heat
Keep in mind
- Yellows and ages under constant UV — use ASA outdoors
- Shrinks, so tight fits need tolerance discussion
- Has a characteristic odor while printing (we handle the environment)
Frequently asked questions
ABS or ASA?
Indoors ABS is excellent and cheaper; if the part sees sun and rain, ASA lasts longer.
Can ABS be smoothed?
Yes, acetone vapor gives a glossy sealed surface. We offer this on request via a custom quote.
